Can I get some advice on my car not starting?

I tried jumping it and power comes on in the inside but when I turn the key I get nothing. I would appreciate any advice! Sorry for the lack of info... The car only receives power when the other car is connected with jumper cables. It does not turn over at all but it does make a click when I turn the key but nothing happens.

One thing is you need to know if the starter is turning over fast enough and to me that vehicle being that age could in fact have very bad corroded or rusted charging system connectionsYou could disconnect the battery terminals then clean themm and the battery posts with a small wire brush or a tool you can buy for cleaning battery posts. Also the starter , alternator ,engine block ground posts should be cleaned the same way and also the bolts or nuts etc should be cleaned or replaced and the studs should be cleaned too.

Another is is it getting any spark, a simple test is getting a basis neon bulb and as someone turns the engine over run the bulb along the spark plug wires and the ignition coil system. If the bulb lights up then you know there is spark and if not then you know the ignition coil could be at fault , wright up a diagram of the wires and then disconnect the ignition coil and unbolt it , check the ignition coil's housing for cracks or bulges or dis-coloring and if it is then it's faulty and easy to get at a auto wreckers or parts store.

Another thing is if spark exists is the spark strong enough?I'd compare the bulb test on a good running engine like yours and be sure the bulb is as bright as it should be bec if it's not then a bad ground could exist or fault in the charging system circuit or the ignition coil has a bad connection or is faulty.

You could have spark and it's turning over fast enough but the gas isn't there due to faulty gas pressure or faulty gas filter or faulty gas pump or the fuel injectors aren't working or getting power. There is a cheap or inexpensive injector tester out there for about 20 bucks or so that can test them easily for you. Also a gas filter should be changed on avgerage every yr and the fuel pressure or regulator valve should be changed on vehicles that age too.

Another thing that can happen is like your home computer the vehicles comps can become stalled or confused even and that can cause the whole system to not work unless battery is disconnected so the comps can reset their biasis.

The engine could have a faulty sensor or the timing is off but to me if you do this work on that vehicle more then likely you'll find the problem and fix it.

One easy test to do is check the voltage or the brightness of a test probe with the ignition off at the postive battery post , alternator and starter posts.Try the same tests while the engine is turning over but dont wear anything loose be cautious and try to have the probe already held onto the testing point.Example by aligator clamps so you can clip one end oof one clamp to the battery's negative, then the other to the test probes or meter's ground lead wire then clip another aligator clamp onto the battery's positive post then other on the probes test metal shaft. This method will allow you to just clamp these aligator clips to the alternator or battery or starter etc and then see with the engine being turned over what voltage is there or how bright the test probe light is.

Perform these probe tests later again once you've over hauled the charging system and grounds and the plug in connector or sensor connections. You'll find that on average most vehicles that age will have much stronger readings etc once that work is done and all in all that will save the wear and tear of starters ,alternators , batteries and other systems , plus it will help greatly to improve cold starts.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way it's best if the grounds you find are really rusted or the screws etc are rusted or corroded badly to simply make up brand new fresh grounds and make up new wiring using the proper wire and gauge of wire and a few basic o-ring connectors etc. With this type of starting problem the good service manual also comes in handy due to it's troubling shooting charts etc.

You should check to see if the relays are engaging once the ignition is turned example the fuel pump relay should vibrate or click etc and if you held your ear up to it or felt it once ignition is turned it should click etc. There could be a relay that is under the hood or in the fuse box under the hood causing this type of issue so for sure check them too.Can I get some advice on my car not starting?
you're welcome

Sounds like the starter. You should try hitting the starter with something like the handle of a hammer or a rubber mallet, if you can get to it that is. Often times, that will get it to at least turn over for the time being. Also, the alternator could be bad and draining your battery. If you can get the car started, take the positive (+) cable off the battery. If the car cuts off right away, the alternator is bad. If it still runs, then the alternator is ok. Thats the easiest way to check it. Otherwise you have to remove it and get it checked at the auto part store. But try tapping the starter body few times fairly hard and see if that gets you anywhere. Also, the battery terminals could be corroded. Take them off and clean them with a brillo pad or wire brush.
leave the jumper cables on the car for fifteen minuets with the other car running you re battery is very low try that and if it dint start after that replace the battery auto zone and advanced auto will put in for free you just buy the battery
Sounds like a starter OR the starter solenoid (the electrical device that pulls the starter motor into the engine)

Check/charge, and/or change your battery and check your starter. Make sure you have the proper cranking amps battery in there too. Too many may fry your starter.
the battery is done n u need to buy a new one
