Can I get some advice for my 1997 GMC jimmy?

I want to upgrade the engine. either drop in a remanufactured engine of the same size, i.e. 4L Vortec V6, 4-WD. Or drop in a small V8? Any suggestions. Also, what is the best way to give it a smoother ride. Its a little loud over bumps. Should I replace the shocks or springs? Can I get some advice for my 1997 GMC jimmy?
Best to get a Jasper motor of the same size--the trans and transfer case hook up will match without any modifications you weren't expecting--anything else will cost a lot more in stuff you never thought of. The noise may be bushings or shocks or broken springs--even cracked springs--so go to a suspension shop for that work. Putting in anything else will be real difficult in upkeep as time goes on--you can't have a truck that just runs--you need the one that runs properlyCan I get some advice for my 1997 GMC jimmy?
your jimmy has a 4.3 L engine not a 4.0 L , and no you cant put in a v8 unless youre ready to spend some serious cash , might as well just get a silverado or an f150 for that matter , and by upgrade you mean what , put a performance cam , performance intake , larger injectors , save your money dude this is a 6 banger .
For the engine replacement, a 4X4 is more difficult to V-8 than a 2wd. You could modify the 4.3 with a lot of aftermarket parts. Any performance shop can locate them for you.

If loud over bumps, start with the shocks, and then check your body mounts, tranny mount, and engine mounts to see if any are broken.
crate engine
they do have kits to do v8s but does cost some bucks check out jasper motors stay away from acdelco motors as well as part store motors shocks filled with hytogen are better but more expensive
i have heard of lots of people puting 350 V8s in s10's.

S10 is the same thing under the hood as a jimmy.

4.3 v6s are junk so i dont blame you.
