How do i get inexpensive advice from an advertising company?

i have decided that before i make any changes to my small business, i need to sit with an advertising expert. but i don't know how i can do it without paying an arm and a leg. tx for your adviceHow do i get inexpensive advice from an advertising company?
I understand your concerns about meeting with a marketing consultant - it can get expensive. And while marketing should be viewed as an investment, there are some ways you might be able to control your costs:





1. Have a clear idea of what it is you expect a marketing consultant to provide. Are you looking for a marketing plan? A change in your media allocation? A clearer definition of strategies and tactics? A new advertising campaign? If you are able to get your consultant to focus on your actual needs and objectives, he/she may waste less time in other areas.





2. Ask to see examples of the consultant's past work. For example, if you need a marketing plan, ask to see an example of one that they have written before. If you are asking for a media recommendation, ask them what experience they have in that area. If you are going to pay top dollar for a consultant's work, you deserve to know exactly the level of work you can expect to receive.





3. Speak to more than one company. Different agencies and consultants will charge differently for their services. For example, you might find an agency that is willing to provide you a complete marketing plan for ';free'; in exchange for a commission on your media expenditure. Or you might find that one company is able to secure you a better rate on media.





4. When you approach an agency/consultant, submit your request as an RFP - a request for proposals. This will require some work on your part, but it may be an ideal solution for you. In an RFP, you challenge various agencies to compete for your business. They'll do their homework - often times conducting an up-close analysis of your business and recommend solutions for you for FREE. Of course, you will have to provide each competing agency with an outline for your RFP, but your investment of time and effort could pay huge dividends for you.
